700,000 Chinese Migrants in Ghana: Hong Kong Origins

Ghanaian Chinese are a Chinese diaspora ethnic group in Ghana. The forebears of ethnic Chinese migrants to Ghana originated in Hong Kong. As of 2009, there were an estimated 700,000 ethnic Chinese migrants in Ghana.

The first documented group of Chinese migrants to Ghana were 50 artisans sent in by the British colonial authority in 1843 to assist in the construction of the Western Railway.The Chinese community in Ghana has been called one of Africa's most successful immigration communities. They work in a variety of industries, including retail, wholesale, restaurants, fishing, and manufacturing.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of Ghanaian Chinese students and researchers.
