It's quite bizarre that there's a movie in Hong Kong called A Wicked Ghost that's a knockoff of The Ring! In the remake, the villainous girl with long black hair emerges from a toilet rather than a television, as she does in the original story. It's interesting to note that this isn't the first time Hong Kong has plagiarized a successful Western movie; in fact, it's not even close. For instance, the film The Grudge 2, which was released in 2006, is a rip-off of the American picture The Grudge, which was released in 2004.
There is little doubt that Western movies have had a significant impact on filmmakers working in Hong Kong. This is most likely owing to the fact that Hong Kong is a territory that was formerly a colony of the United Kingdom and a significant number of its residents are proficient in the English language. Therefore, if you are seeking for a low-cost imitation of a well-known film from the West, Hong Kong is most certainly the place to go!
