It Can Snow in Hong Kong

There have been reports of snowfall in Hong Kong, with the most recent instance having been documented in 1975. The event received extensive coverage in the regional media and generated significant excitement among the general people.

It had been well over half a century since snow had been recorded in the city before this event.

The New Territories in Hong Kong had a few snowflakes fall in 1963, which was the last time snow was recorded to have fallen in the city of Hong Kong.

Despite this, the event did not receive the same amount of coverage and did not generate the same level of excitement as the one in 1975.Snowfall records for Hong Kong only go back to the early part of the 20th century, therefore the few other times it has been known to fall there were all during that time period.

The first known occurrence took place in 1901, when snow was observed falling atop Victoria Peak.Even though it snows in Hong Kong only once every several years on average, it has happened before. In point of fact, snowfall has been documented in various cities of China, including Beijing and Shanghai, in the recent past.

Therefore, although the appearance of snow in Hong Kong may come as a shock to some people, it is not an improbable occurrence. As the average temperature of the planet continues to rise, it is even feasible that in the future there may be more snow in the city.
