Mattel Revives Jem from Hong Kong Trash Can

In 1987, Mattel was interested in developing a new line of dolls to compete with the successful Jem and the Holograms brand that was produced by Hasbro. They went to a Hong Kong trade exhibition in search of a box for Jem and the Holograms and ended up finding one there. Inspired by the box, they decided to make their own line of dolls.

The dolls were a big hit, and they quickly became one of the most popular lines produced by Mattel. When the early 1990s rolled around, the dolls were finally taken off the market.
