The Departed is an American crime drama film that was released in 2006 and was written by William Monahan. Martin Scorsese directed the picture. It is a reimagining of the movie Infernal Affairs, which was released in Hong Kong in 2002.
In addition to the lead parts played by Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg, the film also has supporting performances from Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga, Anthony Anderson, and Alec Baldwin.2006 is the year that the events of the movie take place in Boston. It relates the narrative of two guys who are identical in appearance, one of whom is a police officer and the other of whom is a criminal.
While the officer is entrusted with infiltrating the criminal's organization, the criminal is sent to work their way up through the ranks of the police force. The two men ultimately wind up cooperating against one another in a race to determine the identity of the other man.The movie received positive reviews and did well at the box office.
It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and it ended up winning four of them, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor (Wahlberg).
