Since 1975, the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has been providing funds for a television miniseries that has been ongoing for a long time in order to increase public awareness of corruption in Hong Kong. The television show, which is now airing its 34th season, is credited for contributing to a decline in the amount of corruption that exists in the city.Investigating and outing corrupt public servants is the mission of the fictitious character Wong Tai-sing, who is portrayed in the show by actor Michael Hui.
The show is well-liked by its audience and has been recognised with a number of accolades, including the Peabody Award in 2006.The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (ICAC) has been lauded for the job it has done to combat corruption in Hong Kong. By Transparency International's standards, the organisation was judged to be the best anti-corruption agency in the world in the year 2013.
The ICAC is working to increase public awareness of corruption, and this series is just one component of that effort. In addition to these activities, the organisation conducts educational programmes and campaigns and offers training to officials in various government agencies.The work done by the ICAC has contributed to Hong Kong becoming one of the places in the world with the lowest rates of corruption.
According to the results of a survey conducted by Transparency International in 2017, the city was classified as the eighth least corrupt jurisdiction out of 180 countries.
