Women in HK: High Suicide Rates vs Men

It is a relatively new phenomena that women in Hong Kong have a high suicide rate. In Hong Kong, the suicide rate for women was actually lower than that for men in the early 1990s. However, by the middle of the 1990s, the suicide rate for women had risen to almost double that of men.

Since then, this tendency has persisted, and according to the most recent data, women in Hong Kong commit suicide at a rate that is about 2.5 times higher than that of men.The high rate of suicide among women in Hong Kong could be due to a number of factors.

One idea holds that the high rate of suicide among women in Hong Kong is due to the mounting pressure on women's personal and professional lives. Women are under enormous pressure to achieve both professionally and personally in a culture that is becoming more competitive and fast-paced. Many times, this pressure is too much, and it can make some women think that suicide is their only option.

The lack of social support for women in the city is another factor contributing to Hong Kong's high suicide rate among women. In Hong Kong, women frequently experience exclusion and prejudice in both their personal and professional life. This may cause emotions of loneliness and isolation, which may then result in suicidal ideas and actions.

Whatever the reason behind Hong Kong's high prevalence of suicide among women, it is obvious that there is a problem that needs to be solved. It is tragic that there are so many women who commit suicide in Hong Kong, and it is crucial that we do our best to figure out why so we can do our part to prevent it.
