Hong Kong International Airport, also known simply as HKG, is the primary airport that services Hong Kong. It is situated on the island of Chek Lap Kok, which is also the location of the Hong Kong-Macau International Airport, the city’s second airport. Over 70 million passengers and 4.5 million tons of cargo are handled each year at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), which is a key hub for air traffic in Asia. The Hong Kong government devised a strategy to transform the region into a major center for international aviation and included the construction of the airport in that strategy. The airport’s construction began in 1991, and it first opened its doors for passengers in the year 1998. The construction of the airport cost HK$120 billion, which is equivalent to US$15.3 billion, and it contributed roughly 1% to the total surface area of Hong Kong. HKG has frequently regarded as one of the greatest airports in the world in terms of customer satisfaction, despite the fact that it is one of the busiest airports in the world. Numerous honors have been bestowed upon the airport, the most notable of which are the Skytrax World Airport Award for the Best Airport in the World and the CAPA Airport of the Year Award.
