Jackie Chan has been awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the Hong Kong film industry. He was born on April 7, 1954, in Hong Kong, and is of Chinese and British origin. Chan debuted as a stuntman in the 1976 film Snake in the Eagle's Shadow.
He quickly rose to prominence as a martial arts choreographer and actor, featuring in films such as Drunken Master (1978), The Young Master (1980), and Project A (1983). The Big Brawl (1980) was Chan's debut American picture. Later, he appeared in films such as The Protector (1985), Armour of God (1986), and Police Story (1986).
Chan co-starred in the action comedy Rush Hour alongside Chris Tucker in 1995. The picture was a great hit, generating more than $244 million worldwide. Since then, Chan has appeared in films such as Shanghai Noon (2000), The Tuxedo (2002), and Rush Hour 2 (2001).
He has also directed films such as The Legend of Drunken Master (1994) and Shanghai Knights (2003). Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the MBE on Chan in 2000.
